Swat District is a district in the Malakand Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.
With a population of 2,309,570 per the 2017 national census, Swat is the 15th-largest
district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.Swat District is centered on the Valley of Swat,
usually referred to simply as Swat, which is a natural geographic region surrounding the
Swat River. The valley was a major centre of early Buddhism under the ancient kingdom of
Gandhara, and was a major centre of Gandharan Buddhism, with pockets of Buddhism persisting
in the valley until the 10th century, after which the area became largely Muslim. Until 1969,
Swat was part of the Yusafzai State of Swat, a self-governing princely state that was inherited
by Pakistan following its independence from British rule. The region was seized by the Tehrik-i
-Taliban in late-2007 until Pakistani control was re-established in mid-2009
hunza valley
The region was a Buddhist majority till the 15th century, before the arrival of Islam in this region.
Since then, most of the population has converted to Islam. Thus, the presence of Buddhism in this region
has now been limited to archeological sites, as the remaining Buddhists of this region moved east to Leh,
where Buddhism is the majority religion. The region has many works of graffiti in the ancient Brahmi script
written on rocks, produced by Buddhist monks as a form of worship and culture. With most locals converting to
Islam, they had been mainly left ignored, destroyed, or forgotten, but are now being restored.
muree
Murree is a mountain resort city, located in the Galyat region of the Pir Panjal Range, within the Muree District
of Punjab, Pakistan. It forms the outskirts of the Islamabad-Rawalpindi metropolitan area, and is about 30 km (19 mi)
northeast of Islamabad. It has average altitude of 2,291 metres (7,516 ft). The British built this town during their
rule to escape the scorching heat in the plains of Punjab during the summer.Construction of the town was started in 1851
on the hill of Murree as a sanatorium for British troops. The permanent town of Murree was constructed in 1853 and the
church was consecrated shortly thereafter. One main road was established, commonly referred to even in modern times, as
the mall. Murree was the summer headquarters of the colonial Punjab Government until 1876 when it was moved to Shimla.
chitral valley
The Kho Chitralis came to Chitral as part of the Indo-Aryan migration into South Asia. They settled in the northern parts
of Chitral near the Torkhow and Mulkhow Region.From 1571 to 1947, Chitral was the dominion of the Kator Dynasty.
The British and Sikh garrison suffered a siege by the Chitralis, possibly aided by Afghan forces, in 1895.
The garrison was relieved after six weeks, and the British installed the young Shuja ul-Mulk as Mehtar ("ruler").
He ruled for the next 41 years.In 1947, following the division of the British colony of India, princely states were
offered the choice to either remain independent or to choose one of the two new dominions. The Mehtar of Chitral,
who was a friend of Quaid E Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, acceded to Pakistan and thus Chitral became one of the princely
states of Pakistan. In 1969 it was fully integrated into Pakistan as the administrative district of Chitral.
